Jet bridges monitoring system for HK Airport

2024-07-10

iCreatec partners with Honeywell to deploy sophisticated sensor systems both inside and outside all 146 jet bridges at the airport. These systems monitor various environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure. The primary goal of the project is to enhance the operational efficiency and comfort of passengers by continuously monitoring the environmental conditions within and around the jet bridges.

The technical implementation of the project includes the use of multifunctional sensors capable of measuring temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure. These sensors will be installed inside and outside each jet bridge as well as at strategic locations throughout the airport. LoRaWan technology, chosen for its low power consumption and long-range capabilities, will facilitate communication between the sensors and local gateways via a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN). Additionally, 5G technology will be used to transmit data from the gateways to the cloud servers, ensuring high-speed and reliable communication essential for real-time data processing and analysis.

Once the data is collected in the cloud servers, it will be analyzed and processed. The project will employ advanced analytics and machine learning algorithms to predict environmental changes and optimize airport operations accordingly. The real-time data application will not only allow for predictive maintenance of airport facilities, reducing downtime and operational interruptions, but will also aid in managing risks associated with adverse weather conditions, enhancing the safety of passengers and staff.

Moreover, data-driven adjustments can be made to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the jet bridges to improve passenger comfort. The airport can also use real-time environmental data to provide information to passengers through mobile applications or airport displays, thereby enhancing their overall experience at the airport.
